We didn’t have to go far to find one of the world’s finest vineyard sites. We were already living on it.
Three generations of the family have lived here and now work at Black Dog Hill Vineyard.
Grandparents, parents and children are equally involved and committed, so it will come as no surprise that we are dedicated and wedded to the idea of protecting and enhancing our home.
At the foot of the South Downs within the boundaries of the newly created South Downs National Park, the vineyard is nestled against the 830ft high Ditchling Beacon where the vines are sheltered from the extremes of the British weather and grow happily in true chalky soil, littered with prehistoric sea fossils.
The near perfect combination of geology, geography and benign maritime climate encouraged us to plant the vineyard in 2007. Today, working in sympathy with our landscape allows us to create sparkling wines that can rub shoulders with the very best on the international stage.
